Cody Johnson Receives Five CMA Award Nominations

COJO Music / Warner Music Nashville Platinum recording artist Cody Johnson has received five nominations for the upcoming “The 58th Annual CMA Awards” including Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for Leather, Single of the Year for “Dirt Cheap” and two nominations in Music Video of the Year for both “The Painter” and “Dirt Cheap.” The CMA Awards will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Wednesday, November 20 on ABC and the next day on Hulu.

“I’m honored that so many great songwriters have entrusted me with the success of their songs; that’s not something I take lightly,” shared Cody. “Having two songs that I’ve recorded in the category for 'song of the year' makes me so happy for them! However, being nominated for five CMA awards as an artist that has worked his entire life to get to this point is an incredible feeling that I honestly can’t put into words right now. I’m so thankful that I never gave up, and I’m so thankful that I get to record and sing country music!  I love my job.”

Dustin Haney directed both of the videos nominated for Video of the Year, “The Painter” and “Dirt Cheap.” Both the Album of the Year nomination for Leather and Single of the Year nomination for “Dirt Cheap” were produced by Trent Willmon and mixed by Jack Clarke.

“The Painter” (written by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins, and Ryan Larkins; produced by Trent Willmon) and “Dirt Cheap” (written by Josh Phillips and produced by Trent Willmon) each received Song of the Year nominations.  This award goes to the songwriter(s).

"The Painter" was the first single off Cody's 12-track studio album Leather released last fall. In its debut week on the charts, the song became the most added single at country radio. “The Painter” also hit #1 in Canada and on the UK country charts. Written by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins, and Ryan Larkins and produced by Trent Willmon, the RIAA gold certified song received stellar reviews by media and charted on multiple year-end lists including Country NowHoller MagazineNew York Times and Taste of Country.

Today’s nominations come on the heels of his follow-up RIAA gold-certified single “Dirt Cheap” hitting #1 at Country Aircheck last week making it the second consecutive #1 from his Leather album. Written by Josh Phillips and produced by Trent Willmon, “Dirt Cheap” set a new career benchmark for Cody and now has nearly 220 million global streams to date.

Cody is currently headlining “The Leather Tour” across the US where the majority of his remaining concerts are sold-out including Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on November 9 where earlier this spring he performed the National Anthem for the MLB All-Star Game.
